The Maskking Camo Refillable Pod Kit

The Maskking Camo Pod devices were sent to me for review. These are refillable pod vapes that split in half, with one half housing the battery and the other a refillable pod.

A Catered Unboxing Experience

Maskking included several fun extras with their devices, which is very generous and also indicative of the vibe they’re going for with the Camo.

Included lifestyle accessories:

I thought this was a strange package at first, but then I realized that Maskking seems to be positioning this as an “outdoor lifestyle” kit for a fun summer by the water. The style of the Camo devices and the flavors in this line definitely have a fun, refreshing feel.

Here’s what the core Camo package contains:

They sent me two devices and an extra green pod. I chose two flavors: Pineapple Passion Fruit Orange and Mexican Mango.

One thing I noticed was that each box included two small e-liquid bottles that were not in a sealed bag. They have their normal tamper-evident seals on the caps, at least, but being in a bag would make me feel better about potential leaks.

Hardware Specifications and Ergonomic Design

The Camo balances a massive juice capacity with a portable, although somewhat chunky form factor.

One neat feature of the Camo is the ‘mix-and-match’ approach, which lets you swap and combine pods with different batteries to suit your style.

Technical specifications:

The device has a soft-textured body on the battery side that provides a comfortable, smooth grip paired with a colorful, vibrant screen that displays essential data. The other side of the body is made of clear plastic so you can see the e-liquid inside.

The mouthpiece uses a “duckbill” shape that feels nice to hit from. Internally, the pod is secured by a magnet system that is notably strong yet still easy enough to pull apart for refills.

There’s one design flaw I’ve noticed: the Camo has a rounded base, so it cannot stand upright on flat surfaces. You’ll need to lay it on its side, which is a real inconvenience for anyone used to standing their device on the table.

Features and Safety Controls

The Maskking Camo has multifunction buttons. The device offers both draw-activation and manual button firing.

Quick start guide:

If you turn off button-firing mode, the side button serves as a preheat to warm up the coil before taking a draw. I don’t really understand the purpose of a preheat and don’t find it very useful. But maybe you will.

With button-firing mode on, you can use either draw-firing or button-firing. Draw mode always stays on. I’ve noticed that when button-firing, it fires much faster and the hit feels stronger, so there’s a real benefit. It really seems to kick up boost mode, so it’s great if you want big, strong hits. But I’m so used to draw-activated disposables that I often forget to use it; still, it’s a nice feature.

To protect the user and the 650 mAh battery, the Camo includes several safeguards:

The Camo has a 650mAh battery, which is good for a day or two of vaping, but it’s a bit on the smaller side so you’ll want to be sure to charge it whenever you can. In my use, it drops a percentage every two to three hits.

The 17ml Pod and MK Liquid System

The standout feature of the Camo is its high-capacity pod. At 17ml, this single pod holds quite a lot of liquid. And this pod can be refilled roughly four times, according to Maskking. That means you can get quite a lot of life out of these. They say an estimated lifespan of up to 100,000 puffs. For context, most refillable pod vapes in this style that I’ve tested top out at around 6,000 to 9,000 puffs, so 100k is a massive difference. The pod is clear, which is nice because it lets you monitor levels and avoid dry hits.

Step-by-step filling guide:

The extra empty pod Maskking sent me is the “Apple Green” pod. This is a color-swap accessory only, not an apple-flavored liquid. Don’t be misled by the naming; the “Apple Green” pod ships empty and must be filled with your chosen liquid.

A note on the split design: some similar split pod devices I’ve tried in the past used two batteries – a large one as one half of the device and a very small one built into the pod so the pod could be used on its own. That approach had pros and cons. The biggest drawback was the confusion it caused: customers didn’t realize they had to buy the battery half to charge the pod half. This kit avoids that problem. You lose the convenience of a detachable, pocket-sized pod, but in return you get much larger capacity since there’s no battery taking up space, and this is the first split device I’ve seen that is also refillable.

Performance Analysis and Flavor Testing

The Maskking Camo provides a strictly restricted mouth-to-lung (MTL) draw. Because the airflow is fixed, you can’t loosen the inhale, resulting in a tight hit that will appeal to traditional MTL fans.

One drawback with the airflow is that airflow intake holes sit exactly where my fingers rest, so you need to be mindful of hand placement. I’ve accidentally blocked these holes several times, and it completely shuts off airflow.

Flavor Tests

Pineapple Passion Fruit Orange

A sophisticated, well-balanced experience. The sweetness of the pineapple and orange is cut nicely by the tartness of the passion fruit. This is a very refreshing tropical flavor. I really like the mix of orange and pineapple.

Mexican Mango

The standout of the pair. It’s an exceptionally strong, sweet, and robust mango, and purists who want a “true” fruit intensity will be very satisfied. This is one of the best mango flavors I’ve had in a long time.

The device offers Normal and Boost modes. In testing, the difference is subtle; Boost mode provides a slightly warmer vapor and a minor increase in flavor intensity.

Final Verdict

The Maskking Camo Refillable Pod Kit is an excellent pod device. The large 17ml refillable pod is awesome. And it’s nice to see a pod device that lets us buy other liquid flavors to refill it. It gives us, as consumers, more choice and a much longer-lasting product, and reduces waste. We need more of that in this industry.

The lack of adjustable airflow and the inability to stand the device upright are drawbacks. But those are such minor issues that I don’t see them as a real problem. The flavor production from the mesh coils and the sheer longevity of the 17ml pod make this a great choice.
