The Hellvape Dead Rabbit 4 RDA was sent to me for review from Sourcemore. I chose the matte black model, but they’ve got a bunch of others, so check them out to see what you like. This is a 24mm RDA with a postless deck, honeycomb airflow, and designed for both single or dual-coil setups.
Design
This is such a great-looking piece of vape gear. It looks modern, durable, and mean. Maybe it’s because I haven’t had a new RDA in so long, but I think this just looks awesome. I love it. I got the black version, but it was a tough choice among all the colors, because I think they all look great.
You can choose from:
- Blue
- Gold
- Gunmetal
- Matte Black
- Matte Full Black
- Rainbow
- Stainless Steel
Drip Tips

The Dead Rabbit 4 comes with two 810 drip tips. I personally like the default metal black tip, but that could also be because I got the black variant of the RDA. But the resin-styled tip also looks awesome. It’s really cool that they included two options to pick from.
It’s a wide airflow tip, so plenty for big hits. And there’s plenty of room to drip e-juice from the top, which is why calling it a drip tip is actually accurate.
Top Cap

The top cap slides over the deck, but it only goes one way. You need to be sure that it’s lined up correctly. That can be a little annoying when trying to get it on, but it’s also nice that it ensures the airflow is lined up where it should be.
Turning the top cap to change the airflow is simple. It comes to a complete stop in either direction, which I like because it prevents it from spinning around and not aligning properly with the deck airflow.
Dual and Single Coil Options

By default, the deck is set up in a dual coil configuration. That makes sense, since that’s probably how most people will use it. It’s very easy to get this deck built, as long as you use the included coil measuring tool. You drop your coils down into that tool, cut the legs where the arrow is (5mm), and the coils are a perfect fit.

The included coils are 0.36-ohm Ni80, 5-wrap, and 3mm in diameter, for reference. I figure this is what Hellvape considers the optimal set-up for the Dead Rabbit 4 RDA, so it might be good to know what to aim for when adding your own coils in the future.
If you want to use a single-coil configuration, there’s an adaptor in the box that slots right on top of the deck, converting it to a single-coil deck.

To install the adapter, make sure the nub is in the right spot, unscrew whichever deck screws you need to, make sure the adapter is seated perfectly, and then screw the deck screws back in to lock it into place. The nub only fits into the silver side of the deck, so it’s easy to figure out. It won’t fit into the gold side.

Either deck option is super easy to build and use. Like most rebuildable decks, you’ll want to cut the cotton somewhere around the edge of the deck and then tuck it in. I’ve been cutting it a few millimeters out from the edge, and that’s been working really well for me.
Airflow

The deck has honeycomb airflow holes built into the walls surrounding the coils and into the top cap.
You can’t block one side of the airflow, so both sides need to be open, but that’s totally fine. I only mention it as an observation, not as a pro or con.
The airflow has a wide range of comfortable options. With the airflow wide open, you can practically breathe freely through it, so that’s great for people who want big airy hits. But you can also close it off as tight as you want, and it still vapes very comfortably. You can’t close it off down to the point of doing a mouth-to-lung hit, but you can get some excellent restricted lung draws. I think the airflow was designed perfectly for both single and dual-coil options.
Performance
The way this is built, I’m getting excellent flavor and great hits. The honeycomb airflow does an excellent job of directing air over the coils, delivering all that flavor to the mouthpiece.
And the airflow control works perfectly with any configuration I want to use. I tend to prefer single-coil, lower-wattage builds these days, but I did test with the dual-coil, high-wattage hits too, and everything I threw at it was great.
It feels like Hellvape did a great job of ensuring the airflow was designed to flow just right for both deck options.
The hits are awesome in dual coil. I get huge, warm, comfortable hits at high wattages, which for me are around 75 watts or so. Even when taking hit after hit at high wattage, the deck never gets too hot, thanks to the thick walls of the barrel.
And in single coil mode, I was able to drop it way down to 15 watts and still get crazy hits with tons of flavor.
Final Thoughts

I’m a huge fan of the Dead Rabbit 4. I love the way it looks on my devices; the airflow works perfectly for any build I put on it; the deck is super easy to build; and, most importantly, the flavor is soooooo good.

I also love that Hellvape gives you everything you need to get the RDA going, including two pieces of cotton, two coils, and even a bottom-feed pin if you want to use this on a squonk device.
I can’t think of anything not to like about it.
