How to Disassemble and Refill the NJOY Pre-Filled Tank

A while ago I did a review of the NJOY Convenient System, which is basically NJOY’s vape pen kit and it’s one of my most popular videos ever. I think it’s because it’s a beginner setup that’s extremely accessible since you can find it a Walgreens and 7-Eleven.

In my original review, I mentioned that other people online have said that they’ve been able to take the pre-filled cartridge apart and refill it. I’ve tried many times to get it apart with no luck, but this weekend, I was determined to do it, even if I had to break one to see how it was put together. And I’m happy to say that I figured it out and have now done it on three tanks.

So let’s take a look.

5 Ways to Make E-Juice Thinner

I came across a really interesting thread online about thinning out e-juice. This person has a friend that has an allergic reaction to PG, so his friend asked him to create a PG-free e-juice. The problem is that his friend uses a tank that can’t wick high-VG e-juice because it’s just too thick and viscous. So he’s asking if there’s a good method to thin-out 100% VG e-juice.

This is something I have actually considered before but never researched. Every once in a while I come across a high-VG store-bought e-juice that’s much thinner than usual. I know they are thinning it out, but I don’t know how. I’ve always assumed water.

Here’s what I found.

How to Increase The Nicotine Of Your E-Juice

If you have a bottle of e-juice that doesn’t have enough nicotine for your preferences, there’s a great formula you can use to figure out how much nicotine to add.

Just to clarify, this post isn’t about adding nicotine to a zero mg e-juice. This post is to help you figure out how much nicotine to add to an e-juice that already has nicotine in it.

Reasons for Increasing Nicotine

There are lots of reasons why you might need to add nicotine to an existing bottle of already-made e-juice.

  • A bottle of e-juice handed down from a friend
  • Buying a lower nicotine e-juice because it’s on sale
  • Buying your all-day-vape in lower nic when your normal nic level isn’t in stock
  • Increasing nicotine strength for beginner-style devices

In my case, I want to increase the nicotine strength of an e-juice that I already own to use in a device that is designed for high nicotine. Most of my e-juice is 6mg nicotine, but the device I’m using is better with e-juice somewhere around 18mg.

I don’t want to make an entire bottle of e-juice 18mg, so I’m going to try adding nicotine right to the tank, which holds 1.2ml.

Ok, so let’s go over the formula.

Vd = ( Vo * ( Sf – So ) ) / ( Sd – Sf )

  • Vo = Volume Original (ml)
  • So = Strength Original (mg/ml)
  • Vd = Volume Delta (how much base you add) (ml)
  • Sd = Strength of Delta (how strong is the base you’re adding) (mg/ml)
  • Sf = Strength Final (mg/ml)

Here’s what I’m working with:

  • 1.2ml = size of container I’m mixing into
  • 6mg = original strength of the e-juice
  • 18mg = the nicotine strength I’m aiming for
  • 100mg = the strength of the nicotine that I’m using

Here’s the whole formula filled in:

Vd = ( 1.2 * ( 18 – 6 ) ) / ( 100 – 18 )

  1. 18 – 6 = 12
  2. 100 – 18 = 82
  3. 1.2 x 12 = 14.4 / 82 = 0.175

So that means I need to add 0.175 ml or 0.175 grams of nicotine to add to 1.2ml of e-juice.

Differences Between VG-Based and PG-Based Nicotine

The conversion for milliliters to grams is generally the same number if you’re using PG-based nicotine, so in this case, I would add 0.175 grams of nicotine.

VG-based nicotine has a slightly different weight than PG.

If you’re using VG-based nicotine, use a calculator such as the one from Fill in all of your values, then adjust the target nicotine using the number from the final ML result you got out of the formula.

For example, I got 0.175 ml, which calculates out to ~0.22 grams of 100mg nicotine.

This looks confusing at first but after you run through the process it will start to make more sense.

Vape Battery Safety Guide for 2017

There has been a lot of talk of battery safety lately because there have been a lot of stories in the news about vape explosions. While the media claims that these explosions are caused by electronic cigarettes, the culprits are actually caused by improper use of the batteries that people are using in their devices.

Look at any e-cig explosion in the news and you’ll see that in every case, they are happening to people using mechanical mods or people carrying loose spare batteries in their pockets. I can’t think of one example of one of these disasters happening to anyone using a regulated device or someone who carries batteries in a protective case.

So with all of these stories in the media right now, it makes sense that would put out a guide to battery safety.

I’ll run through some of the tips that they’ve compiled along with my own thoughts and insight for each tip.

Building My First Twisted Coil

I haven’t really had much of an interest in building advanced coils because they seem so time-consuming, but I received a comment yesterday on a thread I started a while ago on ECF. I was asking for advice on the best above-ohm coil builds for a mech mod.

There are two reasons why I’m interested in this. 1) I’ve heard many people talk about how an above-ohm coil can perform really well if built correctly, and 2) I don’t like sub-ohming on the crappy Efest batteries that I have.

So I did a search on Google and Rip Trippers video was the first to show up, so that’s the method I went with.

Here’s my experience.

I’m very happy with it and it was really easy. It took less than 2 minutes to twist the wire, so that’s awesome. I can definitely see myself doing more twisted wire builds in the future.
