This dual-battery, 200-watt Aegis device looks awesome, has new smart lock settings, lots of settings, and a new tank; the Geekvape Z Fli Tank.
Design
I’ve always loved Geekvape’s Aegis line. These heavy-duty vapes can take a beating while also looking great. Geekvape set the bar with the original Aegis, and lots of companies have copied it, but I think the Aegis is still the best.
The Aegis Legend 3 is very similar to the Aegis Legend 2. Not a lot has changed in terms of design. There are minor cosmetic changes, but most are software-related.
One of the most significant cosmetic changes is that Geekvape removed the A-lock switch on the side of the device. This switch made it super easy to lock the device without going into the menu, and I loved it, so I’m sad to see it go.
The screws are a little different, and the body might be shaped differently, too, but it doesn’t look like a significant upgrade to me. The size is nearly identical, too:
- Legend 2: 54.12mm(W)*140.05 mm(H)
- Legend 3: 55.36mm(W)*140.50 mm(H)
The LED screen has a lot more character and color now, though.
There are currently ten colors to pick from:
- Titanium Gray
- Green
- Purple
- Red
- Blue
- Black
- Golden Blue
- Silver
- Rainbow
- Dark Gray
Functions and Features
The Legend 3’s screen is colorful and bright – it’s a great-looking screen. It shows the battery charge at the top, the mode you’re in, your wattage, the atomizer’s ohm rating, the voltage, and a puff counter.
The menu has six main options: Mode, Lock Setting, Puffs (to reset the puff counter), Color (Black/White, Blue, Orange, Purple, and Pink), Brightness, and About (which shows the firmware number).
Modes
There are six modes available in the menu, which you can access by pressing the firing button three times fast:
- Smart
- Power
- Boosting
- Memory
- Eco
- TC-TCR
Smart mode: This fixes your wattage to a specific range based on the coil you’re using. You can change wattage within the range, but you can’t go outside of it. For example, the 0.15-ohm coil can only be adjusted between 70-85 watts. When it hits 85, it rolls over to 70, or vice versa if you’re going down. I like this mode because it sets you in the suitable range for a good vape but also prevents you from going too high and burning the coil
Power mode: In this mode, you can change the wattage to whatever you want, with no restrictions.
Boosting mode: This mode sets the wattage to the highest wattage recommended for whatever coil you’re using. It’s similar to Smart mode but is nice if you always like to vape at the max for your coils.
Memory mode: Geekvape is highlighting this mode on the Legend 3 and calling it the “first-ever Memory Mode.” I guess this is the first time Geekvape has had a memory mode, which is very surprising, but this certainly isn’t a new idea. Memory modes have existed for as long as I’ve been vaping, so at least since 2015. This lets you set up to five different wattages in memory. For example, M1 could be 20 watts, M2 could be 50 watts, M3 could be 100 watts, and so on.
Eco mode: This is a power-saving mode. You can’t change wattage settings when it’s on.
TC-TCR mode: This mode is designed for temperature control, so if you prefer to set the temperature instead of wattage, you can adjust the temperature anywhere between 200-600F (100-315C).
Lock Settings
The Legend 3 has three lock settings: Touch Lock, Button Lock, and Unlock Mode. You can set the mode you want to use in the menu system.
Touch Lock / Smart Lock
Smart Lock is one of the coolest new features on the Legend 3. The grip section of the device has a palm recognition system built into it. Holding the device and touching the firing button unlocks it. Then, all you need to do is fire it and take a hit. This doesn’t provide child safety, but it does prevent accidental activation in your pocket or bag. This mode might not work with gloves on, so that’s something to consider.
Button Lock
This is the usual button lock mode, where pressing the firing button three times fast locks and unlocks the device but doesn’t turn it off. This would be the best mode for child safety.
Unlock Mode
This mode keeps everything unlocked.
IP68 Rating
One of the key features of every device in the Aegis line is that it’s shock-resistant and has IP68 water and dust resistance. Of course, the Legend 3 has it too. Geekvape claims that the Legend 3 has new “Tri-Proof Tech” in addition to their usual IP68 rating. I don’t know if this is more durable than the previous resistance and durability, but it sounds like it, from what Geekvape is saying.
Battery and Charging
The Legend 3 requires two 18650 batteries, which are not included.
Using a USB-C cable, you can also charge your batteries within the device at 5v/3a.
The Geekvape Z Fli Tank
It’s nice to see a new tank with the Legend 3. This tank features top airflow and a flip-top cap for filling. The airflow comes in at the top of the tank, which prevents leaking.
The mouthpiece is removable, so you can change it out if you want.
The tank is made of silica glass and holds a massive 5.5 ml of liquid unless you’re in the EU, in which case you’ll get the TPD version that holds 2.0 ml.
Flip Top Cap
The top of the tank opens up by sliding it forward and then flipping it upward. It keeps the cap secure but also easy to fill. It’s a nice design.
Adjustable Airflow
The adjustable airflow ring is at the top of the tank. It slides smoothly and slowly, letting you fine-tune how you want the airflow.
When the tank is wide open, I get a lot of airflow and big hits. There’s still some restriction though. It’s not like breathing through it. But this tank is designed for a lot of airflow in all settings. You can’t get a tight draw here. Even when it’s closed all the way down, you can take a short hit, but there’s too much airflow for it to be a satisfying mouth-to-lung. So yeah, it’s a tank for big hits.
Coils
This tank uses the Z series coils, which is a plus. Those are good coils that have been around for a while, so you won’t have to completely change up your vaping system if you’re already using this line.
But this tank comes with two new Z-series coils, called Z XM coils, designed to have twice the lifespan of their regular coils.
– Z0.15 XM (rated for 70-85 watts)
– Z0.4 xM (rated for 50-60 watts)
The 0.15 coil works great everywhere between 70 and 85 watts. It performs really well at high wattage, and I like it a lot. I can get a huge hit and excellent flavor.
The 0.4-ohm coil performs extremely well at its recommended wattage. I get a lot of vapor at 50 watts and even more at 60. The flavor is also very good—almost as good as the 0.15-ohm coil. It doesn’t have as much flavor, but the flavor is close and still good.
Final Thoughts
Is this worth picking up if you already have a Legend 2? Probably not, unless you’re a collector, because not much has changed from the last model. But if you don’t already have a Legend or you’re ready to upgrade from the Legend 1, I would recommend it. It’s a beautiful device, it works great, it fires extremely fast, it’s built strong, and it should last you a long time.
