Vaporesso Gen Nano Review

The Vaporesso Gen Nano was sent to me for review from Vaporesso. This is the new smaller version of the Vaporesso Gen and Gen-S (which I reviewed here), which was one of the most popular devices of last year. I reviewed the original and I loved it. And now we have a small version of it!

Design

The Vaporesso Gen Nano has the same layered texture that the full-sized Vaporess Gen has. It’s a really nice soft texture that feels great in your hand. The colors look good and the shape is very comfortable to hold.

It’s also extremely light. You’d be surprised at how light this is, but it doesn’t feel cheap. It feels like a high-quality device.

On the front panel, you have a large round firing button, a 0.91″ OLED screen, your adjustment buttons, and the mode button. One thing I like here in comparison to the larger Gen device is the position of buttons. It’s a lot more natural to have the adjustment buttons next to each other with the mode button below them, as opposed to the Gen where they’re in a straight line with the mode button in the middle.

You can fit a 24mm diameter atomizer on top. The 510 plate protrudes just slightly so you will get a slight gap between the device and the atomizer, which might bother you, but that will prevent the device from getting scratched from the atomizer.

The size of the Nano is super tiny. Compared to the full-size Gen, it’s quite a big difference. With the GTX 22 tank it stands at 115mm and without the tank, it’s 70.3mm tall. It’s 40.3mm wide, and it’s 24.2mm thick.

Features

Like the Gen or Gen-S, the Nano uses the same Axon chip. That means you have all of the same features and settings, which is great because it’s an awesome chipset. It fires very fast and has a lot of different modes to customize your vape.

Five clicks of the firing button turns it on and off. Three fast clicks of the firing button will lock and unlock the mode and adjustment buttons and three fast clicks of the mode button will open the menu.

The screen shows you the battery life percentage, the resistance of your atomizer, a puff counter, your wattage or temperature setting, the mode you’re in, and the recommended wattage for the coil you’re using.

Pulse Mode

This is basically a wattage mode that uses 0.02-second pulses to give you consistent power over the duration of your hit.

Power Eco

A power-saving mode that kicks in when you get to a 40% battery charge.

DIY

Here is where you can use traditional features or customize it more to your likes. You have variable wattage, variable voltage, variable temperature, custom curves, bypass mode, and super player mode. Super Player mode lets you use atomizers built down to 0.03 Ohm or up to 5.0 Ohm.

Smart TC

This is your temperature control mode. It’ll automatically sense the TC coil you’re using and adjust to the right settings as long as you’re using Stainless Steel, Titanium, or Ni-200. Then you can set your temperature manually.

Settings

Smart VW, Auto Eco, Puff counter, brightness, flip screen, default, and version.

And the device has smart features, for example, if your build is extremely low, it’ll ask if you want to go into Super Player mode. If the battery drops to 40% it’ll ask if you want to go into Eco mode. And if you install a Temp Control wire, it’ll ask if you want to go into Smart TC mode.

You can see the manual here if you want to look at each option more in-depth.

Battery

The full-sized Gen uses external removable batteries, but this Gen Nano has a built-in 2000mAh battery. It’s a big battery that should get you through the day but that depends on the wattage you’re using. If you’re taking 60-80 watt hits, the battery will drain quickly and you might have to charge it throughout the day.

It charges using a micro-USB cable on the side of the device. It has fast 2amp charging, but I would have liked to see USB-C charging on here.

GTX Tank 22

The Gen Nano kit comes packaged with the new GTX Tank 22. This is a 22mm diameter tank that perfectly matches the device. It has nice knurling around the base and top cap and the texture feels like the Gen Nano too.

Drip Tip

The included drip tip is a removable 510 black Delrin tip.

Top Cap

The top cap unscrews from the glass section and that’s how you fill it. So no sliding cap here. For me, that’s not a problem. As long as it doesn’t leak, which it doesn’t, I don’t mind if the top cap unscrews or slides.

Glass Tubes

There are two tubes that come in the box.

The bubble glass is pre-installed and holds 3ml of liquid

The straight glass tube holds 2ml of liquid.

Base and Adjustable Airflow

The adjustable airflow ring moves smoothly around the entire tank and stops at each end. There are three airflow slots, all of which stay open at the same time. You get a lot of airflow on this tank. I have no complaints about how the airflow works. It works well.

Coils

There are two coils in the box

GTX 0.2 Ohm Mesh

This coil probably has the most airflow of the entire GTX line. It’s designed for wattages between 45-60 watts. The flavor is good at 45 watts but gets significantly better at 60. It’s expected for a tank to have better flavor at higher wattages, but the difference between the wattages on this coil was pretty big. The flavor isn’t as good as Vaporesso’s new M Pro 2 tank though.

GTX 0.6 Ohm Mesh

This coil is much more restricted than the 0.2 Ohm coil, but it’s still a lung hit. This is designed for wattages between 20-30 watts so you could probably use a higher nicotine liquid with this one, but you still get big hits with a lot of vapor, so I think it works best with low nic liquid. The flavor seems to be about as good as the 0.2 Ohm coil, maybe a little less. But it’s a good coil.

What’s nice about this tank is that it’s compatible with the full line of GTX coils. And there is a lot to pick from, so you can really get the vape you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a much tighter draw, for example, you could get the 1.2 Ohm regular coil designed for 8-12 watts. Or you can buy a GTX RBA head and build your own coils.

The coils are press-fit into the chimney section so they’re very easy to install and remove.

It’s really easy to change the coils when the tank has liquid in it too, just be sure that the liquid doesn’t go above the liquid fill holes of the chimney while the tank is upside down, or it’ll pour over into the chimney after you remove the coil.

Final Thoughts

The Vaporesso Gen Nano is very nice. It’s every bit as good as the Gen, just in a smaller package. It has all the same features, it’s very lightweight, and works great. It’s just a lot smaller and has a max wattage of 80 watts.

The flavor is excellent in GTX 22 tank. The tank is great, but personally, I think lower wattage tanks work better for smaller internal battery devices like the Gen Nano. I wish that Vaporesso would release a nice MTL tank to go with this.

The Vaporesso Gen Nano kit was sent to me for review from Vaporesso and you can get it from them for $61.90.

    • No known issues with the device that I know of. I couldn’t tell you whether or not this is a common problem with the Gen Nano. A problem like that could have been caused by several reasons, for example, the firing button was being pressed accidentally or e-liquid leaking into the device causing a malfunction. Was it autofiring? Or was it actual smoke coming from the device itself? If smoke, it could be a battery problem, and I wouldn’t use it again
