Review of the The Yocan Uni Pro

The Yocan Uni Pro was sent to me for review from Yocan. Check it out here. The original Yocan Uni was pretty popular so Yocan continued to improve on it and they released this version with an LED screen, more features, improved design, and a better button layout. This is a cartomizer mod device designed to cater more towards the medicinal vaping crowd, but if you’ve got a small enough tank, you can use it for regular e-liquid too.

Design

The Yocan Uni looks like a typical box mod device, but since this is designed for vaping pre-filled cartomizers, the style and design make the Uni pretty unique in that industry.

The overall size is pretty small. It’s 3 inches tall, 1.4 inches wide, and about an inch thick. You know how Nintendo and Sega release super-tiny versions of the NES and Sega Genesis. That’s what this reminds me of. It has the same shape as something like the Aegis Solo, but it’s the micro version. I like it.

The texture feels like some sort of rubberized coating, which gives it a sort of silky smooth feel. It’s not grippy though, so don’t expect it to help in that aspect.

On the front of the device are a big clicky fire button, a bright LED screen, two up and down voltage buttons, and a micro USB port for charging.

Turn the device around and there’s an atomizer adjusting wheel, a lanyard loop, a window to see how much liquid you have in your tank and an atomizer height switch. As far as looks and design go, that’s about it.

Connecting Your Atomizer

The Uni is compatible with atomizers that have a 510 connection, but you can’t just drop a tank into the device. You need to use the included magnetic 510 adapter that comes with the Uni.

You screw that onto whatever atomizer you’re using and then you can drop it in. The magnet makes the connection so that you can fire it.

Atomizer Height Adjustment

When you have a tank in the chamber, you can adjust the height using the height adjustment switch on the back of the Uni. There are three height settings to pick from and how you set it doesn’t matter. It’s just personal preference. Because of the depth of the chamber, your atomizer needs to be at least 42mm tall or it won’t come out of the top.

Aperture Adjustment Wheel

Once you’ve got your height set where you want it, now you can tighten the tank down. The chamber fits atomizers between the diameters of 7-14mm. Because it can fit different sizes, Yocan built in this really interesting aperture feature that lets you close down the chamber so that your tank doesn’t wobble around and drive you nuts.

Since you can use cartomizers or tanks of different sizes, it’s a really nice feature to have. It works great and it looks cool.

Features and Functionality

To turn the device on, click the firing button five times fast. And the same to turn it off.

This is an adjustable voltage device that can be set between 2.0 to 4.2 volts and as precise as 0.1 increments. The screen will show you your voltage setting, the resistance of your atomizer, and how many seconds you’re hitting while you vape.

10-Second Preheat – Like other Yocan devices, the Uni has a 10-second pre-heat feature. Click the firing button twice fast to turn it on and click the firing button twice fast again if you want to turn it off before the 10 seconds is up. This is designed to preheat certain types of e-liquids. It runs at a very low voltage just to warm it up and thin it out so that you can get a nice hit when you’re ready.

Battery, Charging, and Safety Features

The battery inside the Uni is a non-removable 650mAh battery. That’s a decent battery for a small device like this, you’ll probably have to charge this every day if you use it often.

Pass-Through Charging – The Uni has pass-through charging which means it can be vaped while it’s plugged in. That’s always a nice feature to have.

Safety Features:

  • 15-second cutoff
  • Short Circuit protection
  • Low battery protection
