VooPoo Drag 5 Review

The VooPoo Drag 5 Kit was sent to me for review from Sourcemore (use their discount code VD5K). This is the latest in VooPoo’s line of extremely popular Drag devices.

Design

As with all of VooPoo’s products, the Drag 5 is a beautiful device. It’s sleek and modern. It also has a really classy style. The leather cover gives the Drag 5 a high-end look.

VooPoo calls the leather cover the Smart C-Frame Cover. The cover folds and bends into several sections and holds into place with some strong magnets. The entire cover comes off but you can also leave it attached on the back side if you simply want to insert batteries.

The Drag 5 comes in seven different colors

  1. Black
  2. Silver
  3. Sakura Pink
  4. Gradient Blue
  5. Sunset Orange
  6. Gradient Brown
  7. Green

The device is 89mm tall, 55mm wide, and 27mm thick. The cover is made of leather, and the device is made of zinc alloy.

Features

Five clicks turns the device off and on.

The screen shows wattage, the mode you’re in, battery strength, a puff counter, a puff timer, the voltage, and the resistance of the coil you’re using in your tank.

The screen also shows a flame animation while you’re firing the device, but you can turn it off in the menu settings if you don’t like it.

At the top of the device is a large firing button. Below the screen is the flip switch. The buttons below the switch are the up and down adjustment buttons.

The flip switch gives you quick access to do things like turn off the device or lock the buttons. You set what you want it to do in the menu.

Three clicks of the firing button will lock all buttons, so you can’t fire it or adjust the wattage.

To enter the menu, press both the up and down adjustment buttons together and hold for a couple of seconds.

This menu has several options:

  • Mode
  • Switch
  • Colour
  • Bat eval
  • Puff reset
  • Theme
  • About
  • Exit

Mode Menu

There are four modes on the Drag 5:

Smart Mode – This mode automatically sets the wattage based on the coil you’re using. The problem I’ve had with this mode is that it won’t auto-adjust after manually changing the wattage. It’ll still stop you from going over the max wattage, but it’ll let you drop the wattage down to 5 and it won’t reset if you take the tank off and put it back on. The only way I’ve been able to get back to the recommended wattage is by using a new coil or a different tank. There should have been some way to reset that here.

RBA Mode – This mode lets you set the wattage to whatever number you want, from 5 watts to 177 watts.

ECO Mode – ECO mode also lets you set the wattage to any number between 5 and 177, but it’s also supposed to save battery power. VooPoo doesn’t explain how this mode works, but in other VooPoo devices, it’s described as a way to conserve enough battery that you’re able to increase the number of puffs by 10%.

TC Mode – This is Temperature Control mode, so as long as you’re using a supported coil, which would include all of the PnP X coils from VooPoo if you’re using their tank. This mode supports NI200, TI, SS316, SS430, and stainless steel coils. You can set the temperature anywhere from 200-600 degrees fahrenheit.

The Switch Menu

The flip switch can be set to do different things. If you go into the Switch settings in the menu, you have a few options to pick from.

Lock – This locks all buttons. It’s the same mode that you turn on when you press the firing button three times. But when this mode is set on the switch, the three-click lock feature turns off. That shouldn’t be a big deal since the mode is now on the switch, but I just wanted to point that out.

Power – This lets you completely turn the device off and easily back on again.

W – This lets you fire the device, but deactivates the adjustment buttons.

Colour Menu

The colour menu lets you change the colors on the screen.

  • Classic
  • Green
  • Pink
  • Purple
  • Yellow

I prefer “classic” because it matches the device, but you’ve got other colors there if you want them

Other Menu Options

Bat eval – This is the battery evaluation mode. I’m not actually sure what this mode is supposed to do. It seems to give me a quick glance at the battery charge. But I can see the levels of both batteries on the home screen, so this mode seems pointless.

Puff reset – This lets you reset the puffs if you want

Theme – If you want to turn off the flame animation while you’re vaping, you can turn it off here. It’s a simple Yes or No menu.

About – If you want to know about your model and serial number, you can check that here.

Batteries and Charging

The Drag 5 requires two 18650 batteries, which are not included. The c-frame cover makes it very easy to remove and insert batteries.

The Drag 5 also has a battery evaluation system. This tells you how much battery charge is in each of the batteries.

The tank comes with a USB-C cable, which means you can charge your batteries in the device.

Safety Features

  • 8-second overtime protection
  • Short circuit protection
  • Overcharge protection
  • Output over-current protection
  • Low battery protection
  • Chip over-temperature protection

Uforce-X TANK (PnP X)

The VooPoo 5 kit comes with the new Uforce-X TANK, which uses VooPoo’s line of PnP X coil heads. This tank comes in three different colors; black, gun metal, and silver. The standard version of the tank is 28mm in diameter and 52mm tall. The TPD version is a little shorter at 49mm tall and holds 2MLs of liquid.

At the top of the tank is a standard 810 drip tip, followed by the top cap and chimney section, the glass tank, and the 510 thread base.

Top Fill

The tank holds 5.5ML of e-liquid, so it’s a nice big tank, which is something you’d want with a high-powered device like the Drag 5. The tank fills from the top by sliding the top cap to the side, which reveals the silicone covered fill port.

Airflow

The airflow comes in from the top of the top of the tank at the top cap. That’s also where you adjust the airflow. The airflow adjustment rings moves left and right and lets airflow in from two large airflow slots.

PnP X Coil Heads

The PnP X line of coils are designed to vape through 100ml of e-liquid without any loss of flavor or dry hits.

The PnP X line consists of five different coil heads:

  • PnP X 0.15 Ohm – This is a direct to lung coil head rated for 60-80 watts
  • PnP X 0.2 Ohm – This is a direct to lung coil head rated for 40-60 watts
  • PnP X 0.3 Ohm – This is a direct to lung and restricted direct lung coil head rated for 32-40 watts
  • PnP X 0.45 Ohm – This is a restricted direct lung coil head rated for 25-32 watts
  • PnP X 0.6 Ohm – This is a restricted direct lung and mouth to lung coil head rated for 18-23 watts

The tank comes with the PnP X 0.15 Ohm coil and the PnP X 0.3 Ohm coil.

Both coils have excellent flavor and vapor production. The 0.3 is great if you want big, but cool, hits, since its range is 32-40 watts. But if you like heat, the 0.15 coil is what you want because that one is designed for a max of 80 watts.

In The Box

  • Drag 5 device
  • Uforce-X tank
  • Spare glass tank
  • Spare silicone parts
  • Two coils; PnP X 0.15 and PnP X 0.3 Ohm
  • USB Type-C cable

Final Thoughts

The Drag 5 is a great device. It looks great, it feels great in the hand, it has an awesome style, and it has all the features you would want in an advanced vape.

The tank is great, too. It works well, you can get some big hits, the adjustable airflow works great, and the flavor from the PnP X coils is excellent.

The Drag 5 was sent to me for review from Sourcemore, and you can pick it up from them at a discount for $44.89 using the code VD5K.
