Design
The Profile X RTA is a great-looking tank. There’s a nice colorful resin drip tip at the top and a stainless steel body that comes in several colors. It comes in:
- Black
- Stainless Steel
- Gunmetal
- Blue
- Gold
- Rainbow
This is a big tank at 28mm in diameter, so if you you don’t when an atomizer overhangs on a device, you’ll need a larger device to put this on.
Mouthpiece
As usual, Wotofo includes a very nice 810 mouthpiece made of colored resin.
It’s a short, low-profile tip that fits into the raised section of the top cap. The color of the tip is different for every tank color Wotofo sells, and they all look great.
Top Cap & Filling the Tank
A quarter turn of the top cap loosens or tightens it. It’s a little hard to get a good grip on it because there’s not a lot of surface area to grab. It’s also hard to tell when it’s fully tightened, although I haven’t had any problems with leaking, so the seal seems tight even if I’m not cranking it way down. I think the main thing to keep in mind with tightening the cap is to make sure the tabs on the cap are under the ridges on the tank. As long as those are in place, the cap is sealed from leaking.
When you have the top cap off, you can see the big e-liquid fill ports. There’s a ton of space here, and the fill holes are huge, so there’s plenty of room to just dump e-juice and not worry about making a mess. I like that.
Airflow
Below the top cap is the airflow adjustment ring. The large diameter of the tank allowed Wotofo to keep this airflow ring thin vertically, keeping the tank short while being able to include a bunch of airflow holes horizontally. You have a ton of airflow customizability with all of those airflow holes.
The airflow ring also comes off, so it’s easy to clean behind it if you need to.
With only the first line of airflow holes open, I get a very restricted lung draw. With half of the airflow holes open, it’s a slightly restricted lung draw. And with all airflow holes open, there’s hardly any restriction at all. It’s basically like breathing through a tube. So for lung-hitters, there’s a good airflow setting for everyone.
PCTG and Glass Tubes
The tank comes with a straight PCTG tube pre-installed, which holds 5ml of e-juice, but if you want to expand e-juice capacity to 8ml, or if you just like the looks of bubble glass, they’ve included a glass tube in the box too. The materials of each tube are different, which is interesting, but both work completely fine.
I’m really glad that Wotofo still includes spare tanks in the box, not just for changing the capacity and the style, but also to have a spare in case you accidentally break one.
Changing the tube is easy. You can pinch the chimney and glass together to break the seal and pull the tank off. Then just slide the other tube on. It all fits together nicely.
When I separated the tank from the deck for the first time, the o-ring seal stuck to the glass instead of staying on the deck where it belonged. That’s pretty normal when these devices sit around in high temperatures in storage or while shipping, but just keep an eye out for that so you don’t accidentally lose the o-ring, tear it, or pinch it when you screw it back together. Just pull it off and put it back on the deck. But even if you do happen to ruin it or lose it, Wotofo includes extras in the box.
Chimney / Chamber Section
The largest section of the tank is the chamber section. It has plenty of room to fit mesh strips or large coils, but is also small enough to keep flavor production strong. There are some big e-juice intakes at the bottom, too, so you can be sure that the cotton always gets plenty of e-juice and doesn’t dry out. I haven’t had any problems with wicking.
The Deck
The deck is very much like previous versions of decks used in the Wotofo Profile line, which is perfectly fine because it’s a great deck and design. You can use either coils or mesh strips. And Wotofo includes cotton for whichever method you prefer.
There are some new improvements to the Profile X RTA deck too.
You have a familiar Profile deck, with clamps on both sides of the deck. That’s how you clamp your mesh strips in place.
In older versions of this deck, this is also where you would clamp your coils – if you wanted to use coils instead of strips. That worked fine, but it could be hard to secure those coil leads. The clamps didn’t leave much room for larger coil leads either.
In this RTA, Wotofo built a postless deck beneath the clamps, so you can add coils like you would on any other postless deck. This solves some of the problems that older versions of the Profile had, but unfortunately, creates a new challenge of cutting your leads more precisely to fit well in the postless deck. So it’s not perfect, and there are pros and cons, but it’s good to see Wotofo trying new things.
Using Coils
You can set up a dual-coil build or a single-coil build. If you go with a single coil build, make sure to position it in the middle of the deck.
Installing coils and wicking them is super easy.
I like to dry fire my coils to remove dirt and skin oils, but if you’re using contact coils (where each ring touches another), you need to dry fire to ensure no hot spots. Pinch and strum with ceramic tweezers until it’s all firing evenly, and then you’re good to add cotton.
With the included Clapton coils, grab one of those smaller 3mm cotton strips and pull it through. I like to prevent waste, so I use one strip for both coils. You’ll want to cut it at about the length of the outer edge of the deck, clean up the cotton if you want, and then tuck it into the wicking holes. The cotton should just reach the bottom of the wicking channel. You don’t want to overpack it, or you could have wicking problems.
When it’s done, get some liquid on there to prime it, then screw it all together and fill it up.
Using Mesh Strips
Installing mesh strips is as easy as it has always been. The device comes with a mesh bending tool, which is just a metal rod, but it’s the exact size to roll your strip so that it fits perfectly in the Profile X. You roll the strip around the bending tool and then fit each end of the strip into the deck clamps. You shouldn’t have to make any adjustments. Everything will sit right in place.
Then, tighten those clamps down. Make sure they’re nice and tight so the strip doesn’t come out when you add the cotton. Once it’s installed, you can also use a screwdriver to straighten out the strip if you need to.
Before adding cotton, you can dry burn the strip to get oils off. Then let it cool down and pull one of those 6mm strips of cotton through it. It’s a tight fit but works perfectly with the mesh strip, so I don’t recommend trimming it. I’ve found that pushing the spring-loaded base down while pulling the cotton through helps.
I cut the cotton at the point where the ends meet the edges of the deck, the same as when doing the coil installation, but now you’ll also need to cut this cotton at an angle because there’s way too much cotton to fit into the wicking channels.
After cleaning up the cotton a bit, fluffing it up, and thinning it out, you can trim the cotton so that it’s short at the top and long at the bottom. I cut it all the way to the coil, but you can experiment. But that works for me. Then you just tuck those pointy ends into the wicking channels and clean it up more if you need to.
I like to prime the cotton with some e-juice before putting it all back together. If you forget to prime it before closing it up, you can also prime it from the mouthpiece. The mouthpiece and chimney are big enough that you can easily drip e-juice onto the build deck from the top.
The Profile X RTA comes with three different types of mesh strips to try out.
- nexMESH Chill: Wotofo says this is for a smooth and creamy vapor that highlights every note of the e-juice
- nexMESH Turbo: Wotofo says this one is for a better balance between flavor and vapor production
- nexMESH Extreme: And this one is designed more for vapor production, but they say it’s still rich with flavor.
All of these have a suggested range of 60-80 watts.
Stronger Spring-Loaded Cotton Support
One of the other improvements I noticed with this version of the Profile deck is that the spring-loaded plate that pressed the cotton into the coil feels much stronger than before. I’ve always felt like the spring felt weak in older models, although to be fair, it never impacted performance in any way. But now it has more force to push that cotton into the mesh strips, which seems like a nice improvement. I’ve never had a problem wicking any Profile decks, but this change helps if you’ve accidentally used too little cotton to wick the deck.
Disassembling and Reassembling the Tank
Pretty much everything on the tank comes apart: the mouthpiece, the top cap, the airflow ring, the glass tube, the chamber/chimney section, and the deck.
This whole thing is easy to clean, and you don’t have to worry about e-liquid or dirt getting all gummed up over time.

Final Thoughts
Wotofo always puts out great products, and I’ve always loved everything in the Profile line. The Wotofo Profile X RTA keeps it going. It’s an awesome RTA. It’s super-easy to build and use, it performs great, the Profile deck has some new upgrades, the airflow can really be fine-tuned, and it looks great.
And Wotofo gives you enough coils and cotton strips in the box that you could set this up at least 4 different ways. Right out of the box, you have everything you need to vape for several weeks, maybe even months. It’s cool that Wotofo provides so many accessories with this tank.
I really like the Profile X RTA. I’m a big fan, and this one is definitely worth picking up. You can get it from Wotofo here (affiliate).
